This breeding will be a first for our Downunder line. I am introducing Rose into this line in hopes of her contributing her nice eyes, ears, and good size. Both Eddie and Rose are sweet, gentle rats with excellent temperaments. I would like to improve upon Eddie's eyes, which are a bit small. Rose has quite large and expressive eyes. She is also very outgoing and playful. Eddie is not a huge buck but he is very gentle and tolerant.
Rose had her litter on August 2nd at 22 days gestation! There are 11 babies, all of which weighed 7-8 grams at birth. Rose seemed relaxed and calm throughout the birth, and has remained that way as a mother. She is taking excellent care of the babies. She allowed me to hold them right after birth, and continues to be an easy going mom. At 1 day old, all of the babies are well fed and growing. There appears to be 4 female and 7 male babies.
Update 08/27: The babies are over 3 weeks old now, and all are doing very well. Rose has been a devoted and doting mother, taking excellent care of her babies without becoming the least bit protective. The babies are very friendly and always fighting to be the first for out time and attention. Their individual personalities are really beginning to shine through. They have been nibbling at solids for a week now, and especially enjoy scrambled eggs, mashed banana, fruit n' oatmeal, and spinach cooked with olive oil.
