Cats
I am a cat person.
Before I owned any other type of pet, I had kitties. When I was 5 years old, I saw a stray cat hanging around outside my house and asked my parents for some cat food. I put food out on my deck and sat out there everyday coaxing the cat to come close to me. We ended up adopting her thanks to my persistence and she was my first rescue! I have rescued and rehomed a lot of cats since that day, as well as fostering them for a local rescue. BARKS is a great organization and I highly recommend adopting from or donating to them!
Recently, I also adopted my first pair of kittens from a breeder. Henri and Hazel were adopted from Kattalyst Oriental Shorthairs. Julie of Kattalyst is wonderful breeder whose cats are truly family, sharing every part of her impeccable home, and clearly her heart as well. She was kind enough to allow me to adopt 2 of the most incredible little creatures I have ever met.
As part of my rescue efforts, I sometimes take in cats who were feral and have been trapped, neutered, vaccinated and just need a place to live. Please support TNR efforts in your area! TNR prevents SO many feline deaths as well as suffering. |
Meet some of my feline friends...
Henri and Hazel

Sleeping together on my bed shortly after I brought them home.

Henri is a real ham ;)
Jas

I rescued Jas when he was 7 weeks old and we have been together ever since (he is 11 years old as of 10/09.)
Jas is supposed to be an indoor only cat, however, he has other ideas.... Especially on nice sunny days...
Mitzie and Sheba

Mitzie, Sheba's mother, is still not too sure about humans!

Pretty, friendly Sheba, enjoying the summer sun and looking for attention of course :)

Sheba in winter.
Sheba and Mitzie are a mother-daughter pair of once feral cats from Newark, NJ.
They were trapped, removed, vetted and cared for by a generous good samaritan, saved from euthanasia or starvation
when a building was closing (they lived in/ate from the dumpster!) When it became clear they would
never be indoor pets, I promised them a forever home in 2001, one of my first TNR adoptions.
They have been the queens of the farm ever since.
RIP Beloved Friends
Bradley

Dear Bradley, Your time on this earth was much too short.
You are missed by so many.
Tweak

I was so lucky to be your 4rth and final owner, and share so many years with you.
Sometimes I think I still see you there, sleeping in the sun in summer or snoozing by the wood stove
in winter. I'm happy you lived such a long and full life., but you are still forever missed.
